Several experimental strategies can be applied in the analysis of synthetic polymers with mass spectrometry. The choice of volatilization and ionisation methods strongly depends on the type of polymer characteristic to be determined. MALDI-TOF is commonly applied to determine molecular weight distributions with a polydispersity.
